Infant/Toddler Program
Warm, caring, loving and consistent…. Happy Days staff provide an atmosphere infants and toddlers thrive in. Age appropriate experiences planned by staff enhance new and expanding skills. Children make gains in social, language, self-help, motor, and problem solving skills.
The rooms of our infant-toddler program combine two-tone subtle yellow and sage walls, windows with curtains, warm rugs, soft furniture and soft pillows for the best combination of home and group care.
Young children benefit from small groups. Babies and toddlers learn social and language skills while babbling, smiling and listening to caring adults in their environment. They come to trust these adults and bond with them. Our qualified staff also help them learn physical and motor skills; encouraging sitting, rolling over, hand-eye coordination, walking and eating skills.
The infant-toddler schedules include walks whenever possible, two separate playgrounds specially designed for under 1 year olds and 1-2 year olds, breakfast, lunch, snacks and a variety of music.
Two’s Program
The twos room is a larger room and a group of up to 10 children with 2-3 caring adults. Toilet training tends to be a major goal for this age group. We have a special toilet just the right size for training. Helping to support children when they are learning about self control, is another goal in this class. Teaching children correct early behavioral skills is an important part of the two year old curriculum.
Included in the room is the book corner, dramatic play, blocks, sand table, circle time area, and more. Learning to share toys, becoming more independent and expanding on adult language are major skills for this group. Staff gear activities to guide children toward these goals.
Playing with playdough, puzzles, finger and hand games develop writing muscles. Singing songs, short circle time activities and listening to others, encourages group socializing and taking turns.
This is an extremely important year for growth and development. Children may come to this class as awkward and egocentric toddlers but leave as independent and social preschoolers!
Preschool/Pre-K Program (3-5 yrs)
The preschool/pre-k program is available for children ages three to five years during which time they engage in activities to prepare them for Kindergarten. There are three preschool/pre-k age classrooms, either single age rooms or multi age rooms. Both choices offer a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on themes for this age level. We use the Creative Curriculum and align lesson plans to meet the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS).
The daily schedule consists of: indoor and outdoor play, breakfast, group time, lunch, stories, music, drama, art and computer time. Field trips, guest speakers and special events are also offered. There are arts enrichment music and movement, math, science and social studies activities offered as well.
In addition, children learn skills such as listening in a group, participating in group discussions, problem solving with peers and adults, and many self help skills.
Happy Days has a formal collaborative agreement with local school systems and Head Start. Children may receive early intervention, speech and language, occupational therapy and other services on site at Happy Days.
School Age Program (5-12yrs)
The program meets daily Monday-Friday after school at Happy Days. Staff members meet the Kindergarten through second grade students at Fisher school and walk them back to Happy Days. Sunderland students, ages five to twelve, also attend by bus.
Happy Days collaborates with the 21st Century Afterschool Program at Fisher School and provides enriched activities based on the school curriculum.
Supervised activities include arts and crafts, games, group projects, cooking, computer time, occasional field trips, and both indoor and outdoor playtime. A snack is provided each afternoon and doing homework is an option. On snow days and school vacations we offer supervised activities for school age children 5-12 years old.
Camp Adventure (6-10yrs)
Camp Adventure is a summer day camp offered for youth ages 6-10. Sponsored in collaboration with the Arlington Recreation Committee and the Lions Club, it is held at the Arlington Recreation Park. Grants and scholarships provide for enrichment programs and help to fund families who could not otherwise afford to attend Camp Adventure.
Activities include daily sports, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips, and special activities. Community volunteers deliver free lunches each day of camp. All recreational activities are designed to promote friendships, team and individual skill development, and fun.
